June Family Updates

Hello there! We’re continuing with our weekly posts with portions of the Family News & Notes publication.  We’re starting off right, with events, and this month’s family scripture passage to reflect on!

Important Events:

Family Sunday:  Sunday June 11 During Worship, we’ll be celebrating Family Sunday to honor our kids, volunteers, graduates, and families!  If you’ll be here and your kids wish to participate in the worship service, please contact Meg!

Moms & Tots Playgroups: We’ll be hosting a Family Foxboro Founders Day gathering at Meg’s home, right by the Founders Day parade route.  It’s suggested to get to their home by 9:30am to park and walk over for a parade spot.  We’ll enjoy lunch together in the back yard after! Pack a lunch and bring a snack to share! Dads welcome this month too!  Suggested (but flexible) ages 9-24 months.

Young Life High School Club: 8th graders are encouraged to attend our last two weeks! Will be meeting Monday the 5th and 12th as we close out the school year at 7:27pm.  There’s still spots for our amazing summer camp week up at Saranac Village July 23-29.

Under 40’s Discussion Group:  We will be scheduling one final meeting, most likely over ice cream one afternoon.  Stay tuned for more details!

NEW! Middle School Connection:  every 4-6 Sundays during the school year we’ll have a middle school connection during worship following the time of greeting!  We will have hot chocolate, goodies, ice breaker games, and a discussion time.  Our next middle school connection will be June 4th

Summer Sundays:  Our Kids Connection Offerings during the Sunday Morning Services will switch to summer mode starting June 18th.   We will have offerings for Nursery-8 years from the time of the offertory to the end of the service.  As always we will have coloring sheets for little ones, and have activity sheets available for older kids to utilize during the sermon on the table in the rear of the sanctuary.

Scripture: Philippians 2:3-5  Don’t do anything only to get ahead. Don’t do it because you are proud. Instead, be humble. Value others more than yourselves.  None of you should look out just for your own good. Each of you should also look out for the good of others. As you deal with one another, you should think and act as Jesus did.  (SUGGESTED READING, PHILIPPIANS 2:1-18)

May Family Connection Part 3!

Each Monthly New & Notes publication includes tips for engaging faith at home, and digital resources to help with that process! Take a look at what we have this month!

Faith at Home:  It can be tricky and sometimes feel forced when we try to find times to talk about our faith in the middle of the business of every day life.  Those busy times are when we need to remember to stay connected to God as a family the most!   We can ask about ways we’ve seen God in our world.  We can ask what we can pray for in certain situations we face.  We can ask, “How do you think Jesus would teach us to respond to this situation we face?” We can ask about things we’re thankful to God for.  WHEN do we squeeze these into conversation?  Car rides, mealtimes, waiting in lines, or bed time routines with little ones.  This month’s digital resource is the perfect tool to guide us in this process!

Digital Resource:  We’ve mentioned Parent Cue often, through our shared blog posts, as a web site to check out, and as a social media account worth following.  They now have a free smartphone app that shares personalized tips and topics for engaging faith in the life of your child, and updates each week, there’s tips for parents of infants, through seniors in high school!  This article shares why this resources isn’t just good for parents, but also grandparents and other caretakers! 3 Reasons I Can’t Stop Using the Parent Cue App

May Family Connection Part 2

As we continue to share portions of our monthly Family Connection News & Notes each week, we are going to focus on tips for all of us to help kids as young as toddlers to find ways to be active participants in the worship service each week!

It’s never too early to come alongside kids to help them participate in worship.  It is our desire that all kids have the chance to be part of our time of worship together.  We’ve been sharing different tips each month for helping kids of all ages – even toddlers – to find their place as participants in worship.  That’s not always easy for families who have multiple kids or for parents who are part of leading the worship service.  When we walk through the doors of the church, we enter into a community where our congregation becomes a form of extended family for one another.  Consider who you can ask to sit with your family and kids during worship to come alongside you and help guide them through worship to help our kids become active participants in worship, regardless of how young! It’s often a challenge, and this month’s  featured articles will share more wisdom in this topic!

This first article from Focus on the Family shares tips for how to help kids as they learn to participate in worship:

Welcoming Kids Into Worship- by  Robbie Castleman

Welcoming Kids Into Worship Focus on the Family

“Helping my kids engage in worship was a sacrifice of my personal enjoyment and convenience on Sunday morning. But in sacrificing my “what I get out of it” attitude, I learned how to pay attention to what God wanted.  It was hard work to think through how I could train my children to worship. I didn’t want them to just be quiet and behave on Sunday morning — I wanted them to belong. I didn’t want them to entertain themselves, but to engage with God in the wonder of what worship really is. Eventually, I discovered practical ways to help my boys fully participate in every part of our service, from the singing of praise songs to the listening of God’s Word.”

This second article shares words of encouragement for our parents as they navigate bringing little ones to church seen in various blog sites, including here on the Huffington Post:

Dear Parents With Young Children in Church By Jamie Bruesehoff

Dear Parents With Young Children in Church Huffington Post

“I know you’re wondering, is this worth it? Why do I bother? I know you often leave church more exhausted than fulfilled. But what you are doing is so important. When you are here, the church is filled with a joyful noise… When you are here, I have hope that these pews won’t be empty in 10 years… I know that they are learning how and why we worship now, before it’s too late. They are learning that worship is important… I know how hard it is to do what you’re doing, but I want you to know it matters. It matters to me. It matters to my children to not be alone in the pew. It matters to the congregation to know that families care about faith, to see young people… and even on those weeks when you can’t see the little moments, it matters to your children”

We’re so grateful to our families and extended church family as we invest in the spiritual growth of our kids!

Trying Something New!

Starting this past November, we began sharing a monthly Family Connection “News & Notes” with information about what’s going on in Kids Connection, as well as resources for families as they navigate incorporating faith into every day life.  It’s a lot of great information, but it can also be a lot to absorb all at once.  We are going to try using this site to share snippets of what’s in the Family Connection each week to help keep the ideas shared in mind!

Family Connection MAY updates:

Important Events:

Mothers Day:  On Mothers’ Day Sunday, John Papirio, the Young Life area director will be preaching, and the WISH group will be hosting a bake sale in place of our normal coffee time treats.  This is a lovely way to begin Mothers’ Day together, honoring the spiritual legacy of all the women and families in our church community!

Moms & Tots Playgroups: We’ll be offering monthly play groups one Saturday and one Thursday a month.  The April dates are Saturday the 13th and Thursday the 25th  Suggested (but flexible) ages 9-24 months.

Young Life High School Club: Will be meeting every Monday this month at 7:27pm except the 29th.

Under 40’s Discussion Group:  We will be meeting on May 21st  after worship in the Nursery to accommodate parents with little ones.

Wyld Life Middle School Club Night!  The next Wyld Life Club of the school year will be posted shortly, most likely May 22  7pm at a family home in Walpole.  This is a great night of middle schoolers from around the region coming together for games, food, fun, and encouragement for grades 6-8.  Meg would be thrilled to accompany any of our 6-8th graders who want to come!

NEW! Middle School Connection:  Every 4-6 Sundays during the school year we’ll have a middle school connection during worship following the time of greeting!  We will have hot chocolate, goodies, ice breaker games, and a discussion time.  Our next middle school connection will be June 4th

Family Sunday:  This year we will host Family Sunday on June 11th.  This is a chance to celebrate all the great things God has been doing in the lives of our kids and families during the school year.  We will be presenting gifts to our PreK-K students, our 8th graders heading to high school, and our high school graduates!

This month’s Family Scripture Passage: Matthew 19:13-15   One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him.  But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.”  And he placed his hands on their heads and blessed them before he left.
